The little engine that could not

There’s something romantic about hooking up with an good ol’ diesel locomotive. Except for this particular little engine unhitched and snuck off just three stops toward Ayutthaya stranding us with no locomotive in north Bangkok. We could have Tuk Tuk’d that far. Plus we didn’t even get lunch out of the deal – some engines are just weak.

Luckily after a couple hours and as many beers, rescue came in the arrival of a proper powerplant. This engine treated us right while pulling us through to the ancient city.

Josie could watch the train/engine clicking together video all day. She says “here it comes, here it comes, on the track, oh no! click!”

Nathan was at a 24-hr sleepover ! so hasn’t seen it yet. Lizzie liked it, although it scared her when she thought it was going to crash into your car. And then she obsessed about what that clickimg was. Going to have to get the toy trains out to demonstrate!

This is Nathan. Gramma just showed me the train hooking up video. Was the train cool? How are you doing in Thailand?

    • Yes the train is an exciting and adventurous ride. We are still on the train to Chiang Mai. It was an overnight train ride and we slept in a sleeping car overnight. We woke up and had breakfast in our compartment and now we wait in Lampang as they try to fix the engine (again.) We are running 2 hours late and have 3 hours left until Chiang Mai. Ask grandma to help you follow along on a map!

We can’t find Lampang (there’s so many of them) on Google Earth. Just a big jungle.
