Northwest Farmfest 2014!

Northwest Farmfest was an enormous success! It was amazing to see the group work so hard together. We got so much done in one long weekend. And it was so fun! We had great meals – so much mac and cheese! – and plenty of Manny’s and lemonade.

I’m going to have to rename this fest as “1st Annual” as I hope that this will become a yearly event!

Thank you again to Mimi, Chips, Peter, Alicia, Brian, Josie, Keren, CJ, Willa, Megan, Christian, Meghan, Shawn, Rick, Liz, Searl, Connie, Wyatt and of course my wonderful Christian.

Brian and CJ built a strong fence between the back yard and playground to keep the chickens out of the front yard. They had a 'shockingly' good time.

Brian and Keren weeded the strawberry patch - and we ate 4 on Monday! And by 'we', I mean Josie.

Peter and Christian put their college skills to good use and built a proper tap holder for our fridge. Their engineering degrees helped, too, I'm sure.

With the porch (almost) finished, the Peter, Christian R. and Christian O. leveled off the dirt and put some mulch around the stairs.

An incredible amount of weeding was done to keep the morning glories at bay in our front garden.

Josie asked for gloves to pick the radishes because the greens are a little prickly. I think she should wear them always.

Shawn moved our drainpipe to go under the fence, instead of over it. Where the pipe leads after that is anybody's guess...

Rain barrel added to help with drainage and save trips to the hose to fill the waters. The fencing is buried around the edges to prevent predators from digging in and there is netting on top to keep eagles and hawks from swooping in.

We'll start by sanding to see what lies beneath. We might still add a runner for comfort and sound.

Our painting and taping teams (Peter and Chips) worked their magic on the master bedroom as well. We did one navy wall and three grey walls. The room gets so much light, the navy is still bright.

The nursery was a weird teal color, until our painting team (Alicia, Mimi and Josie) primed it and put on two coats of a light grey. We're working on a stencil to add multi-colored triangles on two walls.

The whole house is made of wood - no plaster, just wood and wallpaper. We're going to expose two walls of the planks, and sand and stain them.

And of course, there's Bryce! We get to keep her for a while as my parents transition their lives to the Pacific Northwest. She loves chasing chickens.

Alicia and Josie came to visit me at work on Sunday. I was super bummed to miss things at home, but alas.

Megan and Christian R. brought up their dog, Dillon. He is feisty and cute - Josie adores him.

We had a lovely final meal together for Memorial Day. All of the cheeses were made by Meghan! It was a wonderful lunch after all that hard work.

Wow! You all worked hard and it shows! Wish I could have been there – to supervise, of course!

Your house is starting to look great! Looks like everyone worked hard and had fun. Maybe I can help next year. Keep the posts and pictures coming.
